Find the right kind of AI tool for your next job

Start with the result you need, not the longest feature list. An approved email, a product image, a presenter video and an updated customer record require different workflows. Use the categories below to find a useful starting point, then narrow your shortlist around the inputs, review effort and finished output.

Quick route: choose writing for words, image generation for still visuals, video for moving content, and automation for repeatable steps between systems.

Writing and content

Start here when: you regularly prepare customer emails, product descriptions, proposals or article drafts. Bring verified facts, the intended reader and an example of the voice you want.

Look for: clear instruction following, useful revisions and a manageable checking process. A fluent draft is only useful if it preserves your facts and answers the reader’s question.

Example task: turn approved product notes into a concise customer email, then revise it without changing the offer. Avoid submitting confidential material until the service’s data handling suits your requirements.

Image generation

Start here when: you need concepts, illustrations, campaign directions or a visual starting point. Decide whether the final asset must depict a real product accurately or simply communicate an idea.

Look for: control over revisions, consistent visual direction, suitable export formats and clear terms for your intended use. A striking first image may still require substantial editing.

Example task: create three distinct concepts for a seasonal campaign, then refine one to the required crop. Use real photography when product accuracy or evidence is essential.

Video and avatars

Start here when: you need a scripted presenter, a translated version of existing content, generated supporting shots or an easier editing process. These are separate production jobs, even when a platform offers several of them.

Look for: a workflow that matches your script or footage, pronunciation and caption checks, revision control and a usable final export.

Example task: explain a short internal process with an approved script and relevant screen recordings. Choose genuine footage when an interview, demonstration or personal testimony is the point.

Workflow automation

Start here when: the same information moves through the same steps repeatedly. Define the trigger, expected input, destination and person responsible for exceptions before selecting a tool.

Look for: clear permissions, visible failures, duplicate prevention and a safe way to pause the workflow. Connecting more apps does not automatically improve the process.

Example task: prepare a draft follow-up from an approved enquiry record for a person to review. Keep payments, sensitive decisions and unfamiliar exceptions under appropriate human control.

Not sure where your task belongs?

Complete this sentence: “When I provide ___, I need ___ ready for ___.” That identifies your input, output and audience. If a task spans categories, separate it into stages rather than expecting one subscription to solve everything.

For a campaign, for example, writing might prepare the script, image tools might explore visual directions, and video software might assemble the final piece. Test the hand-offs: exports, formats and revision work can matter more than an individual feature.

Use the directory to browse products, buying guides to build a shortlist and comparisons when two candidates remain.

Before opening a trial

  1. Choose one recurring task with a clear definition of done.
  2. Prepare a non-sensitive example and the source facts needed to check it.
  3. List the output format, usage volume and people who need access.
  4. Decide which errors would make the result unusable.
  5. Check currency, billing term and the plan that actually supports your workflow.
